Acute phosphate nephropathy due to use of phosphorous enema: Case report
نویسندگان
چکیده
Acute phosphate nephropathy is a rare but serious type of kidney injury that commonly occurs after the use of bowel purgatives that contain oral sodium phosphate. Bowel purgatives are widely used to prepare patients for colonoscopy, but their use can cause acute or chronic kidney disease. Acute phosphate nephropathy is a type of crystal nephropathy characterized by tubular and interstitial deposition of calcium phosphate. Here we presented a case of acute kidney injury following the use of a sodium phosphatecontaining enema who required a renal biopsy for diagnosis.

Myxoma may cause systemic embolization and frequently presents as ischemic stroke. There has been debates whether it is safe to use recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) in patients with cardiac myxoma who are presented with ischemic stroke at emergency department. we describe a young case of atrial myxoma with initial presentation of acute cerebral infarction symptoms who was treate...
متن کاملA Case Report of Topiramate-induced Acute Myopia
Acute myopia following use of some drugs is a relatively rare condition. Topiramate prescribed for seizure prophylaxis is one of these drugs. In this paper a case of acute transient myopia after taking topiramate is reported. The reported patient is a 28-year old woman who had no history of any eye disease. Following consumption of topiramate pill for one week, she had found blurred vision ...
متن کاملRenal failure due to acute phosphate nephropathy.
Case report of a 62-year-old woman who developed acute renal failure due to nephrocalcinosis, also called acute phosphate nephropathy, after large bowel cleansing in preparation for colonoscopy using oral sodium phosphate solution (Phosphoral, de Witt, Cheshire, UK). Subsequently her renal insufficiency resolved only partially resulting in stage 4 chronic kidney disease. In retrospect multiple ...

Leukemia is the most common malignancy in children which leads to immunosuppression and predisposes patients to opportunistic infections. We report a 12-year-old girl with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) who developed simultaneous infection with pneumocystis Jirovecii pneumonia and aspergillosis in the induction phase of chemotherapy. The patient developed pulmonary cavitation and pneumothor...
متن کاملPhosphate induced crystal acute kidney injury – an under-recognized cause of acute kidney injury potentially leading to chronic kidney disease: case report and review of the literature
Acute phosphate nephropathy or nephrocalcinosis is a tubulointerstitial nephropathy characterized by tubular calcium phosphate deposition - crystal nephropathy - and slowly progressive renal insufficiency during or following treatment with preparations containing sodium phosphate. We report a patient who developed nephrocalcinosis (crystal induced acute kidney injury) following the administrati...
